Backend systems that stay up at three in the morning.

I’m Filip Szarek, a senior software engineer with eight years on mission-critical services in insurance, travel, energy and marine. Kotlin and Java on the backend, TypeScript on the front, AWS underneath. You get the person who designs it and the person who ships it, because they’re the same one.

Services

Build

Backend services & microservices

Kotlin and Java 17–25 on Spring Boot, event-driven with SQS/SNS and Kafka. Low-latency APIs that hold their SLA under real traffic.

Operate

AWS platform & infrastructure as code

Terraform and CDK, ECS and Kubernetes, pipelines in GitHub Actions or Jenkins, observability in Datadog. Deploys that are boring on purpose.

Secure

Identity, authorization & integration

OIDC flows, fine-grained authorization and compliant session management, plus the SDKs and API patterns your other teams integrate against.

Advise

Review, architecture & mentoring

Design and code review, a straight read on a codebase, or hands-on coaching for your engineers.

  1. 01 / Discovery

A short paid phase to map the real problem and price the rest honestly.

  2. 02 / Delivery

Two-week cycles, something deployable at the end of each, tests included, not promised later.

  3. 03 / Handover

Docs, runbook, dashboards and your team walked through all of it.

About me

Senior software engineer. Currently at j-labs, previously TechnipFMC, RITS, First American, Allstate and GFT.

I’ve spent most of my career on systems where downtime has a price tag: insurance policy platforms, travel distribution, industrial data for energy and marine. I like finding a new approach, and I like the end user actually getting what they needed.

A few lines about the problem is enough to start. If I’m not the right person, I’ll usually know who is.
